[Question Thread] Quick Question => Short answer

  • And even so, there's always service disruptions for some, if not all, users.

If this happens without any ddos attack then they need more bandwidth.

and attacker will pay for bigger botnet. There isn't way how to fix DDoS. Server can't block all of these zombie computers(botnet). Masks may block players if some zombies will be from same area and using same ISP

  • well i remember a week, where we got reset almost everyday because someone ddosed the server

Thats why it no longer resets instances if it goes down due DDOS. There is literally no benefit to ddos other than annoy every single player.

Its extremely good instances dont reset due DDOS, otherwise we would have them every single day. :D

Its likely just some sad moron who got bad rng due shopping / event who would do it...

  • am pretty sure the server hasn't gone down though, it's just the connection to the servers which has been disrupted.

  • Well hackers / viruses / etc. are always 1 step ahead.

To fix something, it needs to exist to fix it. Take for example virus: Nobody can ever pre-predict a virus to prevent it to happen. Usually it contaminates several computers and then gets reported for existing and those who build anti-viruses will get the info and start to fight against them and makes anti-virus do it's job.

Until virus, hackers etc. creators find a new vulnerable thing to abuse.

But it's like cheat programs, they abuse something that is inside the game. For example speedhack in old days did abuse 56kb modem support. Many games removes this support and therefore speedhack doesnt work in them anymore.

But there are things that would require changing whole game mechanism to fight against. Like No-animation. But instead the developers should provide methods to catch a no-animation user to publishers etc. if they cannot fix them.

Samething is for DdoS, it needs to happen before it gets a fix.

No. "evul hacker has hacked your MB" will get more views/clicks than "pentester did his/her job and prevented really horrible vulnerability". It's not that you cannot prevent something from happen if it didn't happened yet. Ever heard of condoms?
