events should not be here to provide items from the normal games content, those should be available in the normal game play. events should be here to have fun and obtain non game influencing items.
That statement, in general, I would agree on its principle. An event giving, mounts, wings, skins, housing items, pets, or anything else that is not game breaking, is still a very nice event.
The thing is, then you have two problems.
Our current content doesn't provide some of the things that should be considered game content and are also game influencing items. How many contracts did you get from pve instances, pvp instances or open world? You can find them in the sand shop, weekly login, or anything else that is not directly game content. Then there is a lot of scarcity in the game with other items.
The other problem is, what would they sell in the cash shop other than 'non game influencing' items, if the events provide them? Ideally, you want more of these 'non game influencing' items in the cash shop and less of the 'game influencing' items there.
With how the game is, I'd put whatever rewards for events, including 'game influencing' items, not only because of their scarcity in the game, but also because it has to reward players that keep playing the game. 'You keep playing our game, thanks, here is the reward for that through X event'.

that is sadly true. my definition is more how events are supposed to be. and sorry @Alucinor if you can not enjoy events which do not provide full ultimate +15 by killing less than 20 mobs or not provide 70 legendary pvp enchantment stones a day. many acutally can. some suggestions i hear in the events board are more than ridiculous for a progressive grinding game like aion.
i do not even mind if every item in the game was available in the cash shop for a decent price as long as i can obtain the same item while playing the normale game, excluding events, in a decent amount of time. the cash shop, in the current state of aion and model of 'free to play', should be here for people who can spend less time in the game or need to catch up, those are the people financing the game for people who have more time to play and dont wanna spend money on it. but at the end of the month both parties should be able to be at the same milestone. in my opinion prices on the shop should be calculated by the time required ingame to obtain those.
certainly i prefer monthly subscription and merely skins, dyes and such in the cashshop, like it used to be years ago.

You mentioned it already so I will agree with you on that highlighted point - kudos for that. However, they won't do it. They would lose out on cash if they did that.
Correct me if I am wrong but at times they have put certain items in shop, such as legendary stones, for purchase with a limit on them. One would think, great! Right? Yes, people could buy them if they wanted them and not get THAT far ahead of everyone else in game. I mean, c'mon, what is 8-16 legendary stones every once in a while for purchase from the shop. If only their cost in shop jived with the current economy of the game at the time they came out. They never do. The last time there were enchantment stones available for purchase in shop, they cost close to... 300 AC? 300 AC... which is 3 gold-packs essentially, at that time in Stormwing were worth about 120KK, whilst 1 legendary stone was available in the broker for 10-12kk. Simple math says "Why are you going to be a putz and buy something that costs 12kk in broker from the shop for 120kk?" I understand that. You understand that. The average Joe that can count beans understand that. But you know what? People still probably bought those stones off the shop! Why? Well, I like to say that "some people have more money than brains" and that is a fact. So, yes, events SHOULD provide us with a lot. But they don't.
To this, you can't be surprised when people are displeased with events. What people want from events, I think, is for them a) to have viability and sustainability for their progress in-game, b) variability in the type of event but also the rewards from it, c) accessibility to all with the same kind of benefits for all, and not favoritism towards anyone in anyway.
Finally - on your point about the "player who can stay ingame all day" vs "the people that can spend less time ingame" - once upon a time I would have said: You get what you get out of the game for the amount of time that you put into it. Nowadays however, no matter how much time one can put into it, the rewards are shallow, nonexistent and unbalanced. People that spend a really good amount of time in-game, on one or multiple toons, that farm and farm their little hearts into the oblivion, get zip. Less than zip at times. So it just isn't as simple as one might want it to be.
