Aion Classic Discussion

  • Are aion classic enjoyers like an secret underground group or something?

I tried to check google trends, youtube views stats, reddit and bunch other publicly available sources to check how much popularity aion classic have and I really fail to see them :/

Are they're like hiding somewhere, idk in the darkweb, or something?

I always face manifestations of intolerance towards retail version, when I post guides on Reddit. A lot of classic fans there think, that the whole AION section on this web resource belongs to them.

That's because the vast majority of retail players have quit. They quit because they reached their limit. You're just the last minority still playing/holding on. And that's totally fine, if you enjoy this game for what it is, all power to you.

But it's quite simple. This game is 10 years old now and has had millions of players who, at some point, have played and quit this game. There's a huge audience of players that might want to give the old vanilla game another shot.

You've seen the same happen with Oldschool Runescape and Classic WoW. The vanilla counterparts outperform the retail game. You see the exact same happen with classic aion vs retail aion in America. It's night and day.

It's a whole different discussion as to why that is. Imho it's the same old story. Game has gone increasingly P2W, has it's content stripped for monetary gains and loses almost all it's playerbase over the years. Classic version comes out? Nostalgia kicks in and that massive audience is ready to give classic a shot. And where Blizzard and Jagex do a far more serious job trying to keep that audience. With korean publishers it looks far more like a move to just cash in on nostalgia in the short-term.

  • With korean publishers it looks far more like a move to just cash in on nostalgia in the short-term.

which killed nostalgia quite fast. at this point ppl hoping for a classic are wishful thinking... we know that the reality is going to be different... as other regions already experienced that. some will still stick to the game no matter what... willing to accept these problems... and it's fine but those are a minority.

and it's seems like a problem with all asian mmo games coming from korea or china... some nicely polished and good combat and whatever... but when it comes to business model they all blow. they seem inept in actually making a game non p2w.

  • Sooo. Any nerd got some intel info about Classic actually coming to Eu or not? I know i would try it even thou i quit retail a long time ago.

  • Why are possible player numbers of Classic such a concern to you guys?
    I dont think it matters.
If the game is well received in Korea the game will be updated.

Besides the classic content only lasts for like two years. So even if the game dies rapidly there is nothing to lose.

Nobody who wants a classic server plans on grinding the same content again for several years anyway. ^^
The Wow classic servers only worked so well bc most wow players never played the vanilla game AND it had many new players that never played wow at all. So the content was new for most people.

  • the same happened in classic aion na. lots of new ppl who knew about aion but never got to try it so far but now they got their chance... or random youtubers that review random games advertised classic aion and sent over new ppl to aion. it's not just ppl who played in the past and coming back.

about sticking to the game after trying it... it's another discussion. ppl did stick with wow classic but not with aion classic. it went south quite fast for many... others will play it no matter what but it's a minority at this point. it's true that korea is updating the game based on their game over there but when you see the worldwide popularity decreasing and less money coming to them from other publishers... it's going to impact them and the overall development of the game. look at main aion... since 7.0 or probably earlier the development of aion was minimal and took longer.. we see that the developers were not so involved as in the past... it's like they don't want to invest much in a dead game... a game killed by them. the same thing will be with classic.

You should see and compare it to NA retail:

Pretty sure EU classic would do bonkers, especially if they made it F2P/Gold pack (as much as I despise that system). The EU Aion community seems to be much larger.

Wont happen, stop dreaming. Its season pass or no release

  • [...]

If you want to solve that issue, you should've had Classic months ago and you should've prepared for the future, work closely with Korea.

NOTHING HAS CHANGED since like 2013, empty promises and this relationship with Korea is laughable. Slow and terrible patches that are months behind, terrible communication.

It's no wonder Aion died. Any game would've died, imagine if WoW was made by China and EU/NA would get their patches/updates 6 months later than them, because they had to translate it into 100 languages and some other pointless issues. It would've died 10 years ago.

  • we all got our messages removed. talking about them it's against the rules... spam or not

i wasn't aware that aion a had twitch streams. aaah... you meant to say those streams with 0-15 viewers where their mother and their grandmother and their cat on the phone is there to keep up the view count... if they don't have money to buy view bots. i got it... thanks for pointing out that aion classic is very much alive on twitch and in general.

there is no issue to be solved that easy. classic won't bring hordes like some guys dream. ppl only tried na because it was free... part of them left because the game was crap or similar reasons... other parts left when the free version expired. is still f2p but very limited. and those few ppl playing on those servers you mentioned only play because it's free. if this was p2p or some f2p with some kind of paying... the retail classic game would be just as dead because those ppl wouldn't try it. you guys don't want to admit that it's quite an important reason.

a little has changed since 2013. it's not like before 2013 the game was alive. it was even more dead than now. literally nobody to play with on my server in 2.x. if it wasn't for f2p and split up regions the game wouldn't have existed today. empty promises we get from korea as well. they don't listen to complains and they got our hopes up with 6.0 and after and it was more disappointing. na is doing worse than us... russia and other regions as well. it makes you think it's actually not entirely gf fault... there might be something wrong with korea?

all major mmo from asia i've seen... they come years after releasing in asia... and some with bigger gap difference. the analogy with wow is just non sense... it's not made in asia and they release big patches less frequent and you have to buy them... so there is a lot of money to pay entire teams to develop and translate worldwide.

and are you serious? ppl on this forum still playing retail is because this forum is for this exact version of aion... so far. what other kind of ppl you would expect on this forum... ppl for a game that doesn't exist here?

  • There is no chance people will gather in large numbers for Aion classic, especially not old players knowing why awaits them again. Do not expect new classic patches to be different than in the past. And patches will probably come faster than in the past, which means that things and features will be become obsolete faster than in the past. I don't know which patches they plan to use, but just as an example: would you level up all crafting skills to 499 knowing that in the future patch all crafts will be completely removed?

And there were many such cases that will probably just repeat once again.

If they don't have good ideas for current Aion, why would they bother with classic?

It's not classic it's just same old same old with all bugs, weaknesses, without improved features that we got (rid of) through time (like minimap changes, teleports in Pande, teleporting by clicking on map in some areas, buying arrows etc. ). It's like taking the same bus with same blind and drunk driver that drove you off the cliff once and hoping for a different ending.

Once I started NA classic my enthusiasm rapidly vanished and i doubt many others will feel different.

It was fun back then, but games and players changed a lot in between.

I play and follow Aion more or less just for sociological reasons cause after all these years I am fascinated how systems work contrary to people's wishes- in any field and how systems survive by sucking people's energy and money. It's evil, but it works and humanity still isn't ready to change.

  • I feel very different and i think there are many more that feel different.

Been playing Aion from the beginning when it was subscription based but stopped about a year after Gameforge took over. It became to much of forced grinding and pay to win. I understand that if you have stayed playing that your gaming experience went downhill but if you keep playing a game that does not give you enjoyment then that says more about you then the game.

Now playing classic on NA and there are so many good memories and nostalgia coming back. After arriving in Eltnen i realized again how much awesome content was taken out of the game.

For me the enjoyment of the game is exploring , optimizing combat and socializing with friends . There is no need to keep bringing new content all the time. If they stop after 2.7 then you have all you need. The only reason why everybody needs new content now is because there is no other satisfaction left on the Aion life servers. And of course there is a group on NA Classic servers that is screaming that they will quit the game because 1.5 has not been implemented yet but there will always be people that get bored easily. I do not mind progressing through the game slowly and leveling 7 or more alts and gearing all of them up.

As long as the game stays the way Classic is now i will be in for a long time.

The money i don't mind putting in is the monthly Siel's Aura and i will be spending money on cosmetics and or emotes and or pets. ( as long as they are permanent .. not the crap 30 day stuff )

If NCSoft starts implementing systems again that you need to participate in to stay competitive or make it P2W again then i'm gone.

I have tried many new mmo's but Aion Classic is still a masterpiece to me and If p2w is taken out of the game ( and some elements should be less gear dependent ) then it has enough complexity to challenge your learning curve.

Which cannot be said about many new dual platform mmo games.

So Gameforge ... keep Aion Classic Europe clean of your annoying grind events and P2W crap and you might find many old players coming back.

The only thing that will prevent me from joining Aion Classic Europe is the gap in release date between Aion Classic NA. I have invested quite some time already on NA Classic and starting on EU Classic will become less appealing as time goes by.

That being said , is there any news on ( estimated ) release date ?

  • I like classic been playing NA, but the real put off for me and why I have taken a break is NCsoft West not doing anything they should be doing.

    1. AP Traders

    2. Hacking

    3. Bots

It also seems NCsoft team that's running classic don't know what they are doing. The support team I got no words for how Aion Classic is being handled.

None of this is Gameforges Fault, but people will never understand this.

P2W was there from the very beginning, some people just don´t want it to be true because of their pink glasses

So Gameforge ... keep Aion Classic Europe clean of your annoying grind events and P2W crap and you might find many old players coming back.

Again, not Gameforges fault. NC Soft creates those events, and NC Soft made this game Pay 2 Win.

Death of a Game: Aion Watch this video.

It was meant to be p2w, to fill a gap between the new flagship titles: like next (at that time) Lineage or next Guild Wars.

NcSoft exactly started to go downhill around 2009-2010, even if it looked like just tiny cracks from the outside. While their top titles still performed quite well, esp Korea as market.
