Any normal community from any game probably want the same:
-fair play to each person in game (for example no cheat), no trade something what is normally untradeable or prohibited (for example Abyss Points), respect to each other, tolerate any player from outside of your group / party (for example posting LFG cross server like "dps, check myaion).
For this last - tolarate any player - i agree, that my aion sorts community with not fair play mode. If a new player starts Aion, My Aion Dps will close all doors to instances such players. It creates also a rule to not help any players to grow up, to stop explore such players new things by other players knowing - for example instance.
It is not fair play, if to talk about the matter of gameplay and providing a good entertainment for everyone.
This is why Aion lost many players. Not only by the TC System, but many important cases making the gameplay and the fun from playing corrupted.
-Cheating was and is perma left by Gameforge what grew to a big mountain in the most important timers: for example the 6.2 patch and its TC System
-finding a group made a big difficulties
-start for a new players is very difficult, for example Dimension Hourglass - for a new player Kerub Mission provides only 30 min timer for integrated maps - good luck for level Lakrum within 30 min solo by a new player not knowing a game
Gameforge and some settings in this My Aion DPS Meter created that difficult world for beloved Aion - together.

It is literally no different from what it was before MyAion became a thing.
Back then people would ask you to link your weapon / gear or straight up reject you if you were a "noname".
Myaion just saves that hassle and makes it impossible for people to lie about their gear.
Also, if someone isn't geared enough for a specific instance, they would not only do a disservice to themselves but mess up for everyone else in that group.
Having to meet certain standards for different content is a thing in every mmo that has vertical progression.
Even "welcoming" MMOs like FFXIV don't let you do dungeons that you don't have the appropriate gear score for.
It's a completely normal thing.
-
The topic about gear or experience is not such easy like it seems to be. In the past players were getting the experience by just live playing. There is needed to think deeper, why people were lying about their gears. When I started play i was also a not experienced player, U or someone other calling now "pro" was also not experienced in the beginning. Calling someone as a noname creates a barrier for Aion. It was, it is and it will still be like that, even U or me will say something different. The less players = the worst fun and the worst gameplay in any MMORPG game - unfortunately.
-
I agree with you, but the problem lies not in the community or in the tools the community provides such as the DPS meter, but in the design of the game itself.
I'm afraid that nothing we can do will fix that.

There is no game augmentation whatsoever by using dps meter.
@Sirkka: Yeah, I can see your points and I can not disagree with you on most of them. Just, the game offers the option to hide details. Why is it up to MyAion to know better?
15TAN: Sorry, you are too emotional to write with. I get that you love the metre. So do I. But I also see that it offers functions which are obivously not meant to be in the game.
How about getting a sure Platinum Medal from Crucible Challenge because one can see the boxes id? Surely feels like an unintended augmenting game feature to me.

I can't upload your details if you hide them. So what's your point?

Is that actual use case?
If so big oof -
- Added option to expand app from right to left instead of default left to right expansion behaviour. It should help users who prefer to keep app close to the right edge of the screen.
- Added option in App Settings to change font size. There are 5 sizes available.
- Skills Rotation and Damage Distribution are loaded asynchronously now. Navigation between tabs should be faster.
- Character's legion should be updated more frequently on the website based on information sent along with the battleground status.
- Fixed a bug where Unassigned Damage was not filtered by the selected target.
- Fixed a bug where offline profile was opened instead of online one - when using context menu on selected character.
- Fixed a bug where a link to website profile was broken in offline profile after loading session from a file.
- Updated Classic data paks.

AionRetailFanGirl99: I doubt that I am allowed to explain it here publicly. Yet, I know various people that installed the meter just for that non augmenting feature.
Sirkka: I thought about what you wrote and you are mostly correct. If you limit the statments on those phrases and combined with iduks information, my issue with that is resolved. However, I still think it should work with opt-in instead of opt-out, as I wrote originally.

Philine, what's your main reason(s) to hide gear? I never really understood what was the main reason for "hide detail" option. To somehow prevent preparing for pvp arena against same faction? If people obey the rules, what's wrong about their gear being visible? What drastic change would we see if hiding gear feature was completely disabled?

those are all excuses for insecurities.
everyone knows this, but nobody wants to say it out loud.

100% agree
Privacy is security, hence taking care of privacy is insecurity.
But it's also fine for people to draw the line on what they want to share and what they don't. Trying to mock it or shame on it is silly. -
I can understand people won't show gear fearing they won't be invited to some instance. But on the other hand people can still do a successful run knowing they have a less geared and maybe less experienced member and take care about that from the very start instead of relying everyone knows everything. Knowing that most people won't get mad if they finish a run a couple of minutes slower. It's still much better than keeping quiet and e.g. dying in first 30 secs at 2nd Prom boss and then leaving party and causing way more troubles.
Imo hiding gear does more bad than good, cause in a way it supports this weird attitude of rather be silent fearing of being shamed, instead of being sincere, cause it is the only way to get rid of shaming in the long run. Sadly this attitude is seen in almost every field of life.
Tbh I never understood why having worse gear is worth shaming or why people would feel inferior if they play less. I don't think there is a single player (except those who bought accounts with fully geared characters) who wasn't inferior to someone at some point and we all survived.
People often put too much importance on their's shortcomings thinking others are doing so much better. In reality people mostly have variations of same problems, but they only figure it out when they open up about "problems".
Anyway,
do other mmorpgs also have options to hide gear details?
-
1) if people were just honest when applying, saying that they are newbies, LFG group maker would be more encline to tutor them and gives advices.
Instead, people tends to hide it, impacting the mates'who then, start to have stricter requirements.
2) Aion is supposed to be played in legion. Any newbies should find legions that accepts them. Even "elite" legions shall accept newbies, at least to tutor them and provide assistance (information sharing, stream runs and comments)
Those community issues are independant from what the meter is doing. Fix them, and what is published on myaion is no more an issue.
Philine you missing the proper stand. Those meters contributes greatly for the community.
Continue to ask for more restrictions and some features would only be available on forbidden and private software. Advantages, like the one you said, would only benefit to people with suspicious behavior.
Aion is flawed with technical issues and NC will not fix them, we all know that. But if the meter can do it, any one with proper programming skills can implement similar tools on its own and benefit it to its circles. And there's many engineers playing the game.
So your claims, although somewhat understandable, will not fix anything in the end.

Hey there, well there are two questions here, so I shall reply separately.
Philine, what's your main reason(s) to hide gear?
It depends on the context. While I do not mind my own race checking my gear and I understand that people I apply to want to check out my gear, it takes away part of the surprise in encounters like dredgion/tiark/arena. For me it is part of the excitement not knowing how my opponents are geared as well as them not knowing my/our gear. But also, checking gear in the game while standing besides a character is not the same as having my gear published on a third party website.
What drastic change would we see if hiding gear feature was completely disabled?
None for me. Except that people in the aforementioned encounters would not be unable to check mine and I theirs. Ultimately, exactly what I wish for.
People writing that baddies just can not admit to being baddies is the same as writing that they just can not admit that it is an ego meter for them. Both are valid opinions and neither matters to me. I respect people hiding their gear and it is not up to me to judge their decision. Everyone can level a new character and buy a full Stormwing set in a week by spending a few bucks by now.
Quote from DarknorPhiline you missing the proper stand. Those meters contributes greatly for the community.
Continue to ask for more restrictions and some features would only be available on forbidden and private software. Advantages, like the one you said, would only benefit to people with suspicious behavior.
Hey there.
Mayhap I was not clear about my stance there. Like I wrote, I use the tool myself, since years. Well, it used to be Rainmeter before. But the whole MyAion developed into something that is far more than a dps meter and I am not certain it is still covered by the additional ToS. Atleast the support keeps telling me the use of it is bannable. People writing that MyAion does not augment/improve the gaming experience are just silly. None would use it if that was the case.
Like I wrote before, you can also abuse features of the meter as exploit. Like always opening the correct chest out of three random ones. There is no real point the meter needs to display that id to the user. Sometimes less is more.
Aion is flawed with technical issues and NC will not fix them, we all know that. But if the meter can do it..
In my opinion it is not up to MyAion to decide what is an issue or a flaw in the game and offer an alternative. It is like saying the attack speed is too low and any programmer can create a tool to fix it (using your words).
It is also not the job of MyAion pretending to solve the social aspects. It rather creates two parties (i like it / i do not like it). Having a tool to display ones damage and to improve ones rotation is fine by me and all a damage meter should provide. The rest is just not part of its scope anymore. I understand why people did it and why they like it. It feels just wrong to me.
---
My intentions are not to forbid anyone using the tool. It just like the project got way out of hand and I wanted to state my concerns. Fare with them as you will.
