Price of Soul Sickness is nuts

  • As long as they sell a 1h reduction to 1kinah on the INGAME SHOP, this issue would NEVER BE RESOLVED. think about the logic of what you're proposing, you're literally asking them to stop selling one of their products and instead give it away for barely anything.

do you know any store (clothing, grocery, hot dog stand even) that would do that?

  • My previous post gets disabled for some reason.. Anyway.

Soulsickness is -50% off now instead of 30%. Yay. Will any of you be paying your soul sickness with this event? Mine is still worth over 2mil easy, so its still a waste of money imo.

Maybe in 6-12 months I'll have enough kinah to afford SS.

Doesn't help when you have already soul sickness...

the point of yasba (at least in the past) is to avoid ss when you get ressed in the battlefield, not to spend 1kinah to restore it. The 1kinah restoration and free teleports was just a bonus

  • So there's now an event for -50%
    Last week was -30%
If we wait a few weeks, they might actually pay us to get rid of it

Same old story, short term profit and losing lot of players by not improving the game experience, or actually improving the game experience for long-term profit and keeping most if not all the current player base.

This happened so many times i already know which will happen.

  • To not open another thread, I will post my findings and hypothesis here.

I believe these very high soul sickness costs were an unwanted byproduct of an adjustment of the experience curve.

I attached an image of the Patch Notes, which stated Gameforge exclusive features.

Within the level range of 40 to 50, I did collect several data points of characters having a variety of different experience points restorable via soul healing, as well as the associated restoration costs from the soul healer. In oder to check for a linear relationship, I had my computer calculate a regression line. The equation I arrived at is as follows:

    [Restoration Costs] = 50580 + [Restorable EXP] * 0.05939

(Please confirm on your own how well the above equation predicts your soul healing costs)

Interestingly, the soul sickness costs do not scale strictly linearly with the amount of missing experience but very closlely. For all of my data points, the largest deviation of the regression model prediction from the true value was 1.5%.

Do keep in mind that the above equation is unlikely to extrapolate well to areas outside the 40 - 50 range because it does not contain any data points for that. Still, this level range is where most people struggle with soul sickness. Hence, I believe it to be of interest for us. I suspect that the offset costs of 50 580 Kinah vary based on level, thereby producing deviations from the otherwise very linear relationship. Do keep in mind that the data points were collected during the 50% discount event.

As a second question, I was wondering how dramatically the experience curve has been altered. For this, I sadly have very little reliable data, which happens to not be consistent - likely because of different game versions mingling.

Comparing the current amount of experience required to level from 49 to 50 to that from an old source, yields a factor of approximately 2.5. This means about two and a half times more experience points are required to level now compared to in the past.

To me, it also appears as if the expereince gain for campaign quests was adjusted as well. If I compare current campaing quests to those in a data base, I get a factor of 5.14, which is significantly higher.

If I were to assume an average increase by the factor 3, then by the equation for soul sickness costs, the kinah required for restoration also increase by (approximately) 3. If we were to get the original soul sickness costs - as if the EXP curve was never adjusted - then permanent price reduction by factor used to increase the EXP amount (i.e. ~67% if the factor was 3) is necessary.

Please do let me know if you have any reliable data for past experience curves and gains.

  • Long story short, the soulsickness cost, the price of items from npc shops, skill vendors prices etc. are all the same like when we made millions of kinah a day (farming ow ~2h.) Now we dont really have OW drops or the selling prices 5-8x less of the items and selling the diamonds we get from instances not helping much.
Kinah got nerfed while the cost of everything else did not get decreased.
This whole issue people are having with SS cost etc. is about that.

Not quite. You are describing price changes based on kinah sources in the game. With my post, I have not mentioned it, nor have I even corrected for that factor.

In fact, even if you implemented a price reduction for soul sickness as proposed in my above post, you would very likely still have fairly high prices for something that is a regular expense for virtually anybody.

    In summary:

    • If you adjust the kinah sources to match general game prices, then soul sickness would still be overpriced likely by a factor between 2 and 5.
    • If you adjusted soul sickness costs in accordance with the EXP increases, then everything else would still likely be overpriced.

My point being is, even if you restored the kinah income to what it was before. We would still have an unwanted and higher soul sickness cost.

Do you really think they're oblivious to it? they copied it straight from the private server model of "F2P -> wipe -> BIG LAUNCH -> F2P -> wipe -> laugh all the way to the bank -> F2P" etc.

thats what they sarcastically call "pay to avoid grinding" or "pay to progress", in reality it is just a bad design, think about it, they didnt even bother fixing the wing merchant prices after they lowered the kinah drops, they DONT CARE ABOUT IN GAME MECHANICS like these, they'll instead sell you a SKIN, or a SOUL HEAL BAND-AID.

it could be worse: a common trick is for the admin of a private server to pose as a player and either trade kinah to players for an "ingame gift purchase" (prividing fake demand for their own cash shop items) or straight out sell maxed out characters on ebay for cash.

The current Soul Healer Discount (50%) event will run until the 14th of June (8:59 AM CEST)

I don't think the team understands that this is meaningless. If your rent costs 30K a month, 15K is still a crazy amount. With the 75% npc-sale nerf and generally massive drop rate nerfs (as compared to the 1.x retail) and item prices, paying for SS is unattainable for most players unless the discount is something like 95%.

  • The only acceptable 'soul sickness event' is 1 kinah soul heal, especially after the disconnects, lags and the deaths caused from those.
